Onette

Comfort food in Schöneberg, with luncheonette bones and wine-bar hours.

Onette opened in 2025 on Grunewaldstr. in Schöneberg, from founders Brienne West and Tamara Siedentopf. It sits in the west of Berlin, close to the everyday rhythm of Akazienkiez.

Brienne is from Canada and manages the Kitchen side. Tamara is from Namibia and manages the Service side. They met in London before later moving to Berlin. A fairly wide map for a neighbourhood spot with a short name.

Why Schöneberg

The choice of Schöneberg was deliberate. Brienne describes it as "a neighbourhood with real everyday life and character." There is a mix of generations, families, creatives and longtime residents, and they wanted to open something that felt grounded in the area rather than separate from it.

They also felt there was room further west for a casual luncheonette-style place that stayed connected to the neighbourhood.

Luncheonette, then wine bar

Brienne describes the feel as "somewhere between a neighbourhood diner and a place you could spend the whole evening in. Relaxed, social, and approachable."

The room reflects that. Booths, cherry wood tables, pharmacy tiles, lace and bistro curtains, plus a large mirror above the bar. Tidy without feeling too polished.

The food sits in the same comfort zone. Brunch classics, home-style dishes and seasonal specials show up across the menu. Plates include Kartoffelpuffer with fried egg, bacon, egg and cheese sandwiches, fish rolls, Leberkäse with potato salad, Grießbrei, Quarkbällchen, chocolate cake and changing seasonal pies.

The menu moves easily between diner staples, comfort food and seasonal desserts. From Thursday, the place shifts into an evening wine-bar format, with smaller snacks replacing the daytime menu from around 15:00. Natural wine is part of that evening setup.

Coffee that does its job

For Brienne and Tamara, coffee belongs to the diner, luncheonette and canteen world that helped shape Onette. Brienne puts it this way: "Reliable, uncomplicated coffee is part of people's everyday routines. We wanted our coffee to feel consistent, approachable, and something people trust daily."

Field makes sense here because the coffee supports the space rather than dominating it. It works alongside brunch, cake or an afternoon stop without turning the whole table into a conversation about tasting notes. Onette pours Pan Am filter at the Grunewaldstr. luncheonette.
