Returns and Refunds

We want you to enjoy what you order from us. If something is not right, this page tells you how returns work, what we refund, and what we don't.

If you bought as a consumer through field-coffee.de, the EU 14-day right of withdrawal applies. The rules below explain how that works in practice, and where we apply a value-loss deduction.

Your 14-day right of withdrawal

You have the right to cancel your order within 14 days, without giving a reason. The 14 days run from the day you (or someone you nominated) take delivery of the goods. For orders with multiple items shipped separately, the period starts when you receive the last item.

To exercise the right of withdrawal, send us a clear statement (email is fine) that you wish to cancel. You can use our sample withdrawal form at the bottom of this page, but you do not have to. Send it to hello@field-coffee.de. To meet the deadline it is enough that you send the statement before the 14 days are up.

How to return an item

  1. Email us at hello@field-coffee.de with your order number and what you want to return. We'll reply with a return reference (RMA) and the return address.
  2. Pack the item securely. Use the original packaging where you can.
  3. Ship it back at your own cost (see "Return shipping" below). We recommend a tracked service. You have 14 days from telling us to send the goods back.
  4. We refund within 14 days of receiving the goods (or of you proving you sent them, whichever is earlier), to your original payment method.

Return shipping

Return shipping is at your cost. You ship the item back; we don't issue prepaid labels.

  • Coffee (1 kg or less): expect 4€ to 7€ via DHL within Germany.
  • Equipment (espresso machines, grinders): these are bulky and heavy. Expect 15€ to 60€ depending on machine size and your country, often by forwarder. Get a quote before shipping.

For international returns, the customer also covers any customs or duty handling on the return leg.

Coffee

You can return coffee within 14 days. What you get back depends on the bag.

  • Unopened bag, seal intact: full refund of the bag price. You cover return shipping.
  • Opened bag: the law lets us deduct a value-loss compensation (Wertersatz under §357a BGB) for handling that goes beyond checking what you bought. Opening a coffee bag exposes the beans to air and ends the freshness window. We cannot resell opened coffee. The deduction is up to 100% of the bag price. In practice this means an opened bag will not be refunded, but you still have the right to return it if you want.

The lawful way to read this: you keep your 14-day right of withdrawal on coffee. We don't try to exclude it. We just don't refund value we can't recover.

For taster sets and bundles, the rule applies bag by bag. If you've opened one of three bags in Cheeky Threesome, the unopened two are fully refundable; the opened one is not.

Equipment (espresso machines, grinders, accessories)

You have the full 14-day right of withdrawal on equipment.

  • Unboxed and visually inspected, not used: full refund. You cover return shipping.
  • Used beyond reasonable inspection (brewed coffee, water in boiler, scale residue, missing or damaged accessories, packaging damaged or discarded): we deduct a value-loss compensation (Wertersatz under §357a BGB) reflecting what the item is now worth as open-box or used stock. The deduction is usually 15% to 40% of the price, sometimes more if damage is significant.

You're allowed to plug a machine in and verify it powers on, the same way you would in a physical shop. Brewing coffee through it, descaling, or otherwise running it crosses the line into "use" and triggers Wertersatz.

To get a full refund, return the item:

  • Unused
  • In its original packaging, with all accessories (tampers, water tanks, filter baskets, manuals, dosing tools)
  • With the original invoice

Accessories, merch, and other goods

14-day right of withdrawal, full refund if unused and in resaleable condition. You cover return shipping.

Damaged, defective, or wrong items

This is not a withdrawal scenario. It's a warranty claim, separately governed by the statutory Gewährleistung (typically 24 months on equipment, manufacturer warranties on top).

If something arrives damaged, defective, or different from what you ordered:

  • Email hello@field-coffee.de within 14 days of delivery, with photos and your order number.
  • We arrange replacement, repair, or refund at our cost (including return shipping).
  • Don't ship anything back until we've replied with instructions, otherwise we can't reimburse the shipping.

Refunds: timing and method

  • We refund within 14 days of receiving the returned goods, or of you proving they're on the way, whichever is sooner.
  • Refunds go back to the original payment method.
  • Standard delivery cost (what you paid us to ship) is refunded on cancellation of the full order. If you keep part of the order, no shipping is refunded.
  • For partial returns, only the value of the returned items is refunded.

Effect of withdrawal: what we cover

If you exercise the 14-day right of withdrawal, we refund:

  • The full price of the returned items.
  • The standard shipping you originally paid us, if you cancel the whole order.

We don't refund:

  • Return shipping (your responsibility).
  • Any premium shipping upgrade above standard (we refund standard only).
  • The value-loss deductions described above, where they apply.
