The Baratza Virtuoso+ is the Encore's older sibling, same filter-first character, meaningfully better hardware. Harder M2 burrs give cleaner cuts and longer life, a 40-setting grind dial covers everything from French press to espresso range, and a digital timer accurate to a tenth of a second takes the guesswork out of dosing. All in a compact footprint that still fits any kitchen.
It's the grinder to buy when the Encore is nearly right but you want more precision on the dial and a proper timer on the front.
M2 burrs are harder and more precisely machined than the burrs on entry-level grinders, which shows up two ways: a more uniform particle size in the cup, and burrs that hold their edge for years of daily use. The Virtuoso+ grinds faster than the Encore as a result, and the cleaner cut produces filter coffee with better clarity and separation of flavours.
The front-panel timer lets you set grind time to a tenth of a second, enough resolution to dial in a dose and hit it consistently every morning. No more starting and stopping by eye, no more catching the grinder a second late. Set it once, hit the button.
Same 40-step grind range as the Encore, covering French press, Chemex, V60, Kalita, AeroPress, and drip. The Virtuoso+'s precision burrs and harder steel make each step feel more defined, the difference between settings is more audible in the cup.
If the Encore is the answer to "where do I start with fresh grinding?", the Virtuoso+ is the answer to "what do I upgrade to?" Better burrs, faster grinding, a timer on the front, a more finished-feeling chassis. For filter drinkers who've outgrown entry-level but aren't ready for the Forté range, this is the middle ground.
Like the Encore, the Virtuoso+ is tuned for filter brewing. It can grind fine enough for most espresso machines, but it's not a dedicated espresso grinder, for that, the Sette line is the right category. For pour-over, drip, press, AeroPress, and everything in between, the Virtuoso+ is a proper upgrade.
