Sage the Bambino Plus SES500, Compact Espresso Machine with Automatic Milk Texturing

The Sage Bambino Plus is the Bambino with Auto MilQ, Sage's automatic milk-texturing system that handles steaming while you pull the shot. Same ThermoJet heater ready in three seconds, same 54mm portafilter, same 9-bar extraction profile. The wand does the milk, you do the coffee, and both land at the same time. For households where mornings are busy or milk drinks are the default, this is the Bambino that actually saves time.

Proper espresso, hands-free milk, compact footprint. The one to buy if automated steaming is the feature you want.

Auto MilQ, hands-free microfoam with 9 combinations

The auto steam wand uses a sensor to monitor milk temperature and stops when it hits your setting. Three temperature options (warm, medium, hot) combined with three texture options (flat white, latte, cappuccino) give nine usable combinations. Hit the button, the wand textures the milk, stops on its own. Microfoam density rated by Sage at a million microbubbles per millilitre, dense enough for proper latte art without you doing the work. Manual wand mode is still there if you want to steam by hand; the automation is an option, not a mandate.

ThermoJet heater, ready in 3 seconds

The ThermoJet heating system hits extraction temperature in three seconds flat. Not a warm-up, a total time from off to shot-ready. Uses around 32% less energy than a traditional thermoblock, adds up over a year of daily use. For anyone used to waiting five or ten minutes for a proper machine to come up, this is the feature that changes morning routines.

54mm portafilter, 18g dose

54mm portafilter with an 18g basket, Sage's own portafilter standard, distinct from the 58mm commercial standard used on the Sage Dual Boiler, Oracle range, and Lelit prosumer machines (Victoria, Elizabeth, MaraX, Bianca). If you're likely to upgrade to a 58mm machine later, 54mm accessories don't transfer across. If you're staying in the Bambino tier, 54mm tampers, distributors, and precision baskets are widely available from Sage and third parties.

Low-pressure preinfusion, 9-bar extraction

The 15-bar Italian pump delivers gentle preinfusion to bloom the puck first, then 9 bar of extraction pressure, the preferred profile used by commercial machines and prosumer kit. This is how espresso is actually meant to be pulled, and it's what separates the Bambino Plus from pressurised-basket machines further down the price range.

1- and 2-cup programmable doses

Two programmable volumetric buttons for single and double shots, plus manual mode when you want to pull by eye. Set the machine once and hit the button every morning, or take full control when you want to dial in differently.

Comes with the Razor precision dosing tool

The Razor is Sage's dose-levelling tool, it trims excess ground coffee off the top of the portafilter after tamping for a consistent, level dose every time. Included with the Bambino Plus (not included with the standard Bambino). Useful accessory for getting repeatable shots as you're learning.

Compact footprint

195mm wide, 32cm deep, 31cm tall. A touch wider than the standard Bambino due to the auto steam system, but still narrow enough for small kitchens. One of the most compact proper espresso machines on the market with automatic milk texturing.

Who the Bambino Plus is for

The Bambino Plus is the right machine for households where milk drinks outnumber shots, for busy mornings where the time saved on steaming matters, or for anyone who wants espresso quality but isn't interested in learning to steam milk by hand. If you want to learn the craft side of milk texturing and prefer a manual wand, the standard Bambino is the cheaper sibling with full manual steam. If you want integrated grinding and a touchscreen, the Barista Touch Impress or Oracle range is the Sage answer above this. For compact, hands-free milk drinks at a sensible price, this is the Bambino to buy. Works perfectly with Field Coffee Espresso.
