Baratza Encore — Conical Burr Filter Coffee Grinder
The Baratza Encore is the grinder more filter coffee drinkers own than any other, and for good reason. Forty-millimetre conical steel burrs, forty grind settings, one dial on the back. It handles everything from French press at the coarse end to AeroPress at the fine end, with the consistency filter coffee actually needs. No touchscreens, no timers, no learning curve — just a grinder that does the one thing it's designed to do, properly.
Compact footprint, simple controls. The grinder baristas point you towards when you ask where to start.
40mm conical steel burrs
Conical burrs run slower and quieter than flat burrs, with a particle profile that suits filter brewing. Forty millimetres is the right size for daily home use: big enough for consistency, small enough to keep the grinder compact and affordable. Steel burrs hold their edge for years of normal use, and when the time eventually comes to replace them, they're user-serviceable.
Forty grind settings across the filter range
One adjustment collar on the back, forty clicks from coarse to fine. The range covers French press, Chemex, V60, Kalita, AeroPress, and clever dripper — all the filter methods you're actually going to use. Dial in your method, leave it set, or step through as you work out what tastes best.
Built for filter, not for espresso
The standard Encore is a filter grinder. It can't grind fine enough for espresso, and trying to use it that way leads to bad shots. If you're after an espresso grinder, the Encore ESP is the version to look at. For everything else — pour-over, drip, press, AeroPress — this is the right tool.
Simple, honest construction
Single dial, pulse button on the front, removable hopper and grounds bin. Nothing to break, nothing to calibrate, nothing to go wrong. When something does eventually need replacing, Baratza's parts network means it's a five-minute job rather than a new grinder.
The first step up from pre-ground
If you're drinking filter coffee and you haven't yet switched to grinding fresh, this is the jump that changes the cup more than any other upgrade. The Encore gets you there without overthinking it.
